The manager/interviewer contacted this client to inform her that unfortunately the position had been awarded to an internal applicant who was acting in the position. However, he also asked her permission to forward her resume to other areas within the department in an attempt to find her another position.

I have been advised today that I have been successful at interview for a Nursing Officer position – Grade 6, Clinical Nurse, Psychiatric Emergency Centre … I will take up the appointment as of 17 November.

This client has a background in practice management in the health industry and first used my services in 2007, after which she made a very successful career move that required relocation to North Queensland. Now that she is ready to make the next career move, this time to a different industry altogether, I updated/re-wrote her résumé by distance. I rarely agree to work by distance, but in this case I knew I could rely on TT to provide me with sufficient information in a timely manner and therefore agreed to take on the job.

As with many of my clients, it was like catching up with an old friend even though, as a young, dynamic professional, there is quite a difference in our ages.

Dear Sherida

Great news – I have had five interviews for judges’ associate positions for 2009. I didn’t get two of them (one Court of Appeal, one Supreme Court) and I withdrew from one after the interview as I decided Ipswich District Court wouldn’t help my career any, as it is about 90% crime. I don’t think I want to practice solely crime and I think I would benefit more from being exposed to a greater range of areas. One I still haven’t heard back from.

I did get a position for the remainder of 2008 as associate to His Honour … in the District Court. I started in May and finish in January 2009. It has been a tough first few weeks as I have been finishing off six subjects and trying to learn a new job, but it as been very exciting.

I’m not sure what I’ll do next year, whether I’ll continue to pursue another associate position for the full year or look to begin work at a firm. I will think about it over the June/July break.

I prepared CV and a four-page statement for an AO3 position within Queensland Government for this client who lives on the Sunshine Coast. This was one of those rare occasions when I was able to prepare the application by distance because of the quality and depth of information the client was able to provide to me.
